Tuesday Cables || A Season Ahead

I had a different subject planned for today, but that didn't work out so This is basically going to be another Etsy update. I've got a few different things in the shop now. If you'd like to take a look just click the "Etsy" tab under the banner and that will take you right to my shop.

I'm finally learning how to work a season ahead and I'm really starting to enjoy making multiples of things which has really surprised me! I'm sure some people wish we were a season ahead so they wouldn't have to shovel snow again until next winter!

Here's a little peek at what I was working on today. 10 bunnies and 10 tails. They're all put together now. This was just after I'd finished all the crocheting.

I know most of you have some pretty amazing crafting abilities, but if anyone has a questions about custom ordering something, I would love to talk about it!

I'm Still Here and Vintage Fashion Shopping Link!

The last few weeks have been hectic with filling in for multiple library coworkers when a monster of a cold kept some of the staff out for nearly a week, then traveling (and thankfully not catching the cold) the week after that, and then coming back to work gearing up for the Summer Reading Program which promises to be quite an exciting and busy event!

For the next few months, August first is the last day of the SRP, my posts may not fall on regular days. You've probably noticed that happening already!! I will try my hardest to still post twice a week! Without further ado, here is Tuesday's post on Thursday. A little less craft oriented too, but I don't think anyone will mind much.

Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful book series. If you have never read it you NEED to. The first two movies are also lovely, the Continuing Story...well, it didn't follow the books and was just not my cup of tea. Though, it was really neat to see Megan Follows, Jonathan Crombie, and Schuyler Grant all grown up.

Because of my love for the books and films, I liked the Anne of Green Gables Facebook page. Which often posts links to the Shop at Sullivan website which is affiliated with Sullivan Entertainment, the production company that made the Anne movies.

Right now on the Shop at Sullivan Site they are selling costumes that are similar to the Anne era and some film worn costumes from other Sullivan Entertainment series like Wind at My Back. Which is also a very good series you should try to see! It is so much fun to see all of the beautiful vintage looking clothes they are offering right now for fairly decent prices!

Shawls, Shells, and a Makeover Without Makeup

Within the past week I actually finished two projects! Small projects, yes, but it feels so good to actually be able to finish not one, but two things before I am totally burnt out and bored with what I'm working on. Both Items are (belated) birthday gifts for my friend and I'm going to post pictures.

First to take up some space, so that maybe she won't peek, I'll share with you a book I've started reading. "How to Sell Your Crafts Online." I'm on chapter three and so far I have found it extremely helpful!! It focuses on setting up a nice looking Etsy shop and gives tips on what will generate traffic. It also talks about how to utilize other social media to your best advantage but I haven't gotten that far yet. My Etsy Shop will be undergoing a little makeover for about the next month, so you may notices slight difference when you visit for the next four weeks. Although, I think I've probably already made some of the biggest and most noticeable changes. Mainly just adding a banner (which I added here on the blog as well, at the moment.) and a brief shop announcement. Please, check it out and let me know what you think so far!

Alright, here are the birthday presents:
The shawl hopefully looks familiar from last week's post. I finished it! I had one entire day off last week and spent it crocheting and having a classic movie mini marathon.
I know I've mentioned it before but I LOVE  the color of this yarn! Caron Simply Soft: Pagoda.

And this second project was a spur of the moment thing. I had absolutely no idea what she wanted this year! Usually I have at least a rough idea. Then everything sort of fell together. A page I follow on Facebook (can't remember which!) posted a link to Lion Brand's Solid Shell Crochet Jewelry Frame. I remembered that my friend kept her earrings hung over the edge of a small jar, so I think she'll like this. I have to say, I was pretty thrilled when I posted a picture of it in progress on Instagram and Lion Brand liked and commented on my picture! That certainly made my day!

Hello and thank you to those of you who have just started following. That makes my day too! :)
*Edit: I have changed a little more than just adding the banner to the blog now!!! ;)

Net-Work

I really enjoy working at a craft store! Love the fabric, love hearing all the creative ideas, love learning new tricks and techniques for various crafts, love getting the chance to network with other local crafters!

Today I met the owner of Byhillary on Etsy. I was cutting flannel for her and we got to talking. I think she was shopping with her mom, and while Hillary went to help a customer find an item (It is SO great when a customer helps another customer when we're short handed!) I asked her mom what the material was for. She told me it as for bibdanas. Even just the name of those sounds cute!! I asked if she had a shop, which she does!  We exchanged shop info and they went on their way.

Please, go take a look at Byhillary on Etsy's facebook page and etsy shop!

Still Counting Down

Well, I know, no pictures lately. I'm waiting for the 29 days to be up. Then I shall have some nice pictures of everything I've finished...not 29 pictures, but grouping the similar things, you know?

However, here is my list of thing I've been working on. Updated just 2 minutes ago!

29 Days

29-Doily
28-Lemonade Pie
27-Grocery Shopping, Lobsters
26-Creme egg brownies
25-Blue glitter sweater
24thru19-Doilies
18-Jillnaimo bars
17-Joann fabrics for pillow stuff
16-doily
15-Pillowcase
14-car paintings
13-car painting
12-doily
11-car painting

Let me explain a couple of things.

First of all, I'm trying to crochet 37 doilies. It's an Anne of Green Gables thing.

Secondly, a couple of these days are places I went and things that I made. I was actually out of the house for a good chunk of those days. Contrary to popular belief, I do have a life.

Thirdly! I made Nanaimo Bars and had to keep substituting ingredients. They actually turned out okay, but because I had like 2 actual ingredients I dubbed my version Jillnaimo Bars.

Fourthly...is that even what you say? I am not painting a car. I am making paintings of old cars from vintage ads in an old LIFE magazine that I have.

Lastly, I know I set this up the same as last week's post. I am a list maker. That's whey this whole post is a list and there is a big fat list within the post!

I have so say, it is incredible that there are only 11ish days to go of my countdown! I am ready to see my pal again! :D

PS Thank you to whoever(If you're reading this) favorites the Julie Andrews picture on etsy. It is such thrill to know someone really likes something I worked so hard on! I really appreciate it.

Christmas in July

First of all...

Etsy Expiring Listings Sale!! Toddler Hat, Shawl, and Crochet Tote just $5 each!!!! (They would make excellent gifts for Christmas in July! ;) ) www.etsy.com/shop/wizardofoddsandends

Secondly...

As I expected to happen, I have fallen behind on my 29 days challenge. When you make 2 different doilies and unravel them both to make a third that you decided you liked better...you get behind with things. I am, however, keeping a rough daily record of what I worked on so I will be able to give an accurate account of crafts completed in the not-so-distant future.

Thirdly...

I think that's all for now. It's late and I have to go to sleep.

Progress

I still have seven things in my shop. of course I am aware that it can take months for things to sell, but it's exciting to check my shop just to see if anything has happened. It's sort of like what Jo March says about trying to sell her writing in Little Women, "Money...but it's not only that. there's a sort of nervous feeling. I like it." She goes on to talk about how people she doesn't even know will read and enjoy her stories. Ha, the money certainly does help, being fresh out of college and having school loans sitting over my head like a big gray cloud. But I just love making things and trying to sell them so that people I don't even know can enjoy them. It is very exciting.

Now, progress, or lack thereof:

A BIG HUGE afghan made in little tiny strips. Sewing the strips together proved to be very, very, very time consuming. (Not that I didn't get distracted while in the process) After putting together only one and a half rows, I think I'm going to attach the strips together another way. Which I'm going to try just as soon as this is posted...and as soon as I find the pattern booklet.

The ends of my size 9 feet are in the picture for a little reference to how big this unfinished pile of afghan is and I also need to mention that it is inside a deep bag...somewhat similar to Mary Poppins' carpet bag.
